making buildings behave more like plants and industries more like forests

Field Edge connects natural resources and regenerative industry-scale projects.

Founded and led by Principal Emily Dawson, we are consultants with a deep background in practice. As very early adopters of mass timber, we understand how to leverage cross-disciplinary networks to break barriers restricting the adoption of new construction practices. To support a robust circular construction economy and bio-based building practices, we work with industry-level clients on national-scale initiatives.

Field Edge is proud to support exceptional clients like the U.S. Forest Service, The U.S. Endowment for Forestry & Communities, WoodWorks, the Softwood Lumber Board, the Softwood Export Council, and the International Mass Timber Conference.

Emily Dawson

Architect, AIA, LEED AP

Emily combines industry-scale viewpoints with project-scale practicality.

Emily is a mass timber architect advancing structural technology through built and industry-scale projects. She has been promoting mass timber since 2013, after designing the first Cross-Laminated Timber structure built in Oregon. Inspired by her experience with European mass timber, modular, and industrialized construction, Emily increasingly applies off-site fabrication approaches in her work. Successfully leading teams to innovate in multiple sectors has given her a holistic view of the construction industry, as well as a passion for breaking boundaries to promote innovation. Honoring a lifelong reverence for the intelligence of natural systems, Emily integrates circular economy principles in every project. She received her degree in Architecture from Cornell University in 2003.
